Lamido pardons four prisoners in Jigawa

Dutse — Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State has pardoned four prison inmates for exhibiting good behaviour while serving their  prison term.

According to statement from the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi Taura, singed by the SSG’s Public Relations Officer, Mallam Babangida Andu, the inmates are Malama Amina Adamu, Ifanyi Chukwu, Nasiru Shu’aibu and Musbahu Kyauta.

The only female among the pardoned inmates, Amina, a 60-yr-old woman, was pardoned for old age, ill-health and her inability to pay the fine of N7,000.

She was sentenced to one-year imprisonment with an option of N7, 000 by a Shari’a Court in Guri Local Government Area of the state, and was also accused for practising witchcraft and conspiracy, an offence contrary to Section 122 of the state Penal Code.

While the  18-yr-old Igbo inmate, Ifanyi Chukwu, was jailed for three years by a Magistrate Court in Birnin-Kudu Local Government Area of the state for stealing in January 2008.

The other two inmates, Nasiru Shu’aibu who was accused of theft and Musbahu Kyauta, accused for house breaking were sentenced to six and three years imprisonment by a High Court in Gumel and Kasuwa Shari’ah Court, Kano respectively.

Both inmates had three months to complete their prison service before they were granted the pardoned.
