kidnappers accept amnesty in Abia

By Anayo Okoli

Umuahia — A group of kidnappers operating in Abia State has embraced the amnesty declared, last week, by Abia State Government, saying there will be no more kidnapping in the state. The group has also decided to surrender and submit their arms to the government as a proof  that they  have actually embraced the amnesty.

The group called, Umuoma (The Good Ones) believed to have about 300 members operating in the oil-rich Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state, made the declaration to accept the amnesty by its deputy leader, Mr. Steven John.

Mr John and 11 other members of the gang were brought to the Abia Government House, Umuahia, by the state commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC,  Mr. Nathaniel Ubong.

He claimed that they went into kidnapping to protest the marginalisation  of their community in spite of the fact that they produce oil.
