I’ve not dumped PDP – Uzamere

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE senator representing Edo South Senatorial District, Senator Ehigie Uzamere, weekend, dismissed the allegation that he had dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for Action Congress, AC.

He insisted that he remains a bonafide member of the PDP and would contest the 2011 senatorial election under the party.

Uzamere, who declared that he was a strong member of the Dr Samuel Ogbemudia faction of the PDP in the state, broke his silence to newsmen, while addressing leaders of the PDP from Orhiomnwon, Ikpoba Okha and Oredo Local Government Areas of the state.

It will be recalled that Uzamere parted ways with the national leader of the party, Chief Tony Anenih, when he shunned the instruction handed down to the three Senators from the state by Chief Anenih, to ensure that Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s nominee into the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Mr Donald Omorodion, was not cleared by the Senate.

The duo of Senator Odion Ugbesia (Edo Central) and Alhaji Yisa Braimoh (Edo North) heeded  the call, but Uzamere went on to fight them on the floor of the Senate and Omorodion was cleared, to the chagrin of Chief Anenih.

However, Senator Uzamere, who declared to the PDP leaders that he was being persecuted due to his belief in the Bini course, asserted that he would not be pushed out of the PDP.

He said,  “I will not be intimidated out of PDP or be cowed by any individual. Only the Bini and God Almighty can stop me from returning to the Senate.

“When the father and son relationship was on, Chief Anenih asked the three of us to vote for Jude Ise-Idehen, who is in the AC but I said no, I am a PDP man and that I will support the PDP nominee, Mathew Iduoriyekenwen.

“I fought them and Ise-Idehen, whom I have apologized to, was dropped. But when the relationship went sour between the Governor and Chief Anenih, we were ordered not to vote for Oshiomhole’s nominee,  Donald Omorodion.  I told them I would not do that because he was a direct nominee of the late President Umaru Yar’Adua.

“I later told them that I am representing the Bini and I will only carry out instructions from them and not from outside the zone. And again, I have told them that I belong to the faction, led by our father, Dr Samuel Ogbemudia and that the PDP cannot win any election in the state unless they reconstitute the Dan Orbih-led executive which is one sided.”
