Impeachment plot in Anambra house thickens

By Enyim Enyim

ONITSHA — The plot to impeach the Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Chief Anayo Nebe, his deputy, Mr. Afam Obi and other principal officers of the legislature, yesterday, intensified as the G- 20 lawmakers, led by the Chief Whip, Mr Gabriel Onyenwife, reiterated their resolve to actualise their plan.

Speaking exclusively to Vanguard, Onyenwife said the decision to sack the officers was to strike a balance in the political equation of the state.

He said the delay in the execution of their plot was because they were being very careful and did not want to give room for any mistake from any quarter, adding that the 20 signatures already collected from some of the legislators were intact as no one had withdrawn from the struggle.

Onyenwife said, “what we are talking about is re-zoning and not impeachment. If the House agrees that all the principal officers should resign, including myself, so be it.

“But if any one is lucky to be re-elected, if the position is re-zoned to his constituency, fine and good.”
He said his office included those to be re-zoned, stressing that he was not born a Speaker, neither was he desperate to be one.

“It is not my birth right,” said the Chief Whip.
