ICPC arraigns staff over fraud

By Ikechukwu Nnochiri

ABUJA —The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, yesterday arraigned its former accountant, one Mr. Gabriel Musaminu Ogida before an Abuja high court, for allegedly issuing a cheque from the coffers of the commission to a private owned company.

The ICPC docked the accused person yesterday alongside the manager of the benefitting company, Mr. Babatunde Aliyu, on a three-count criminal charge of conspiracy and fraud.

The anti-graft agency in its charge sheet alleged that Gabriel while acting as an accountant in its employ conspired with the manager to transfer huge sums of money from the ICPC account, in favour of a company, Grace Atiba Spring Enterprises.

The commission said while it was able to trace the cheque issued through the 2nd accused person, its former accountant who is the 1st accused person in the matter has failed to account for other monies that were transferred out of the ICPC treasury.
