Gunmen kill 2 Policemen in Rivers

PORT HARCOURT—It was a tragic experience for the Police in Rivers State, Sunday night, as two of their men, Sergeant Jonah Okere and PC David Mark, were gunned down by unknown gunmen.

Also a man who could not be properly identified by the police was murdered in his car with registration number, Lagos TZ 936 KJA, while two passersby reportedly sustained gunshot injuries.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Rita Inoma Abbey, said the deceased policemen  were on a stop and search duty when the assassins in two vehicles opened fire, killing them on the spot, adding that their rifles were taken away by their killers after the sad incident.

“On the 16 of this month at about 22:55hrs at Okporo road, unidentified gunmen in a black jeep and Mazda car with registration numbers unknown, killed Sgt Jonah Okere and PC David Mark who were on a stop and search duty. One AK 47, N0 K0355789 and one sub gun rifle N0 07005762 were taken away by the armed men.

Two others and a man not identified were injured. A man in a Toyota Camry car with registration number: Lagos TZ936KJA, light brown colour was killed and abandoned with his car,” the PPRO said.
