Edo PDP, AC differ on Obahiagbon, Osagie

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Action Congress, AC, in Edo State, yesterday, disagreed on what led to the decision by two PDP House of Representative members, Messrs Patrick Obahiagbon and Samson Osagie, to dump the former for the latter.

While the PDP in a statement signed by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Okharedia Ihimekpen, claimed that the lawmakers were decamping to AC because they have been allegedly offered a return ticket by Governor Adams Oshiomhole, which according to the party was contrary to his one man, one vote mantra, Publicity Secretary of AC, Mr Retti Uzzi, described  PDP’s claim as a clear evident that the party was finished in the state so they are weeping.

According to Uzzi, “the lawmakers decided to leave the PDP because the party is in disarray and they are happy with the developmental strides of the Comrade governor.

“So their claim is pure jealousy.”

However, the PDP statement stated that “while the PDP abhor and does not offer automatic ticket to any aspirant in line with the party’s policy and constitution, all qualified aspirants seeking elective positions in the party will be given equal opportunities to showcase their credentials in the party primaries.

“ This is to give the people the ample opportunity to choose those who should represent them.  Let us play the politics of development, let all political parties and aspirants brace up for the 2011-2012 race, with open heart.

“Let the electorate decide who they want and who should represent them. Quality representation shall remain our watchword and together we shall salvage the state.”
