Communities ask Chime to intervene in conflicts with monarchs

By Tony Edike

ENUGU — THE people of Ezzeodo and Eze Agbo/Omudaga autonomous communities of Uda Enugu Ezike in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area have appealed to Governor Sullivan Chime of Enugu to urgently wade into the face-off between natives of the two communities and their traditional rulers, Igwe Hyacinth Odo and Igwe Nathaniel Eze.

Members of the two communities made the appeal during a peaceful protest at the Government House, Enugu, where they informed the government of their plights. They had also passed a vote of no confidence on the two traditional rulers.

Spokesman for the com-munities and immediate past Parish Priest of St. Peter’s Catholic Church Uda Enugu Ezike, Rev. Fr. Meletus Idogwu, who traced the problem back to six years ago, accused the two traditional rulers of allegedly abusing their exulted positions and insensitivity to the problems of their subjects.

According to Rev. Fr. Idogwu, the traditional rulers have allegedly continued to use law enforcement agents to harass, molest and intimi-date innocent citizens, especially youths and women of the two communities.
