Bayelsa govt faults planned protest

By Samuel Oyadongha
Yenagoa—Bayelsa State government yesterday raised alarm over alleged plot by some politicians in the state to sponsor a protest march against the administration of Governor Timipre Sylva in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the planned one-day visit of the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to the state.

It said the aim of the sponsors of the planned protest who have allegedly recruited boys from Bayelsa and Rivers states, was to paint the administration of Chief Timipre Sylva in bad light before the president who incidentally is a native of Bayelsa State.

Bayelsa State government, it was, however, learnt, has alerted the security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the State Security Service, SSS, and the Presidency over the alleged plot.

The Overseer, state Ministry of Information, Nathan Egba, who is also the state Director General, Tourism and Publicity Bureau, urged those involved in the planned protest march to desist from executing their plan and avoid putting the home state of the president into public ridicule.

His words: “It is regrettable that Bayelsans have adopted an embarrassing means to present their grievance. Instead of finding a better means of resolving any differences, they have continued to devise evil means at every opportunity to instigate division in the state.

“These politicians should know that this is the time to consolidate and take advantage of the great opportunity presented by the ascension of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan as President.”

The President stand as a symbol of unity for all indigenes of the state and the nation at large. Whatsoever grievances that had existed within the people in the state should be put aside and everyone work for the progress of the state,” he said.
