Bayelsa Gov sets aside N1.5bn for post anmesty programme

By Samuel Oyadongha

Yenagoa- Governor Timipre Sylva of    Bayelsa State   said yesterday that  his administration had set aside N1.5billion for the post amnesty capacity building programme expected to train 5,000 youths in various skills even as he joined in the call on President Goodluck Jonathan to contest 2011 presidential poll.

In a speech  to the people on the occasion of 11th anniversary of Democracy Day in Yenagoa, said though Dr. Jonathan has not indicated his intention to vie for the 2011 presidential poll but has the support of the people to gun for the exalted office.

His words, “I would like to give voice to the raging question of the president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s return to office in 2011. As a state, we have given him the mandate to go ahead and run, even though, he has not declared interest in the presidential race yet. He has our full support to deliver on quality leadership for Nigeria. As Acting President, he did very well and we are confident that he will continue to do well at the helm of affairs of our country.

“I appeal to fellow Nigerians in all parts of the country to look beyond the political indulgences of the moment and consider the serious fact that since independence 50 years ago, it is only the Niger Delta region, which, incidentally, is the cash cow of the federation that has not tasted presidential power.

I believe it is only fair and just for Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, whom God in His infinite mercy, has propelled thus far, to take the seat of President in 2011. At the moment, he is only completing Yar’Adua’s tenure.”
