AWKA — THE All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, in Anambra State claimed, yesterday, that it has sacked its chairman and the party’s governorship candidate in the February 6, election, Chief Mike Ejezie, over allegation of incompetence.
But in a swift reaction, Ejezie said that he was not aware of his removal, and that he was at a meeting in Abuja as the state chairman of the party.
Addressing newsmen yesterday, the Legal Adviser to ANPP, Chief Ugochukwu Ogudo, said that in place of Ejezie, the party machinery has been handed over to Chief John Onyeka as the chairman, adding that Ejezie had ceased to be the state chairman in line with the provisions of Section 23, Article 8 of the party’s constitution.
“The party stakeholders and members of the executive council have replaced him with Chief Onyeka, who was former state party Auditor, as Acting Chairman to serve out Ejezie’s tenure, pending the conduct of the state congress,â€Â Ogudo said.
He alleged that Ejezie’s tenure was characterised by maladministration, which, according to him, did not only put ANPP in disarray, but also in a state of comatose, forcing members at the grassroots to yearn for a replacement while many others left the party.
He accused Ejezie of high-handedness, adding that prominent members of the party had left for other political parties.
He regretted that ANPP, which was supposed to be a formidable opposition, had become a shadow of its past and called on members to rise up to rebuild the party with the aim of winning future elections in the state.
