Activist blasts Obasanjo over comment on Jesus

By Ehis Osajie

LAGOS — President  of New Way Forward for Nigeria Movement and a US-based political activist, Mr Kolawole Akingbade, has condemned Chief Olusegun Obasanjo’s statement that elections in Nigeria cannot be credible even if Jesus Christ were to come down from heaven to head the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Describing the statement as uncharitable and insensitive of the feelings of Christians all over the world, the activist urged Nigerians to ignore the comments of the former leader and join the campaign for changes in the electoral fortunes of the country.

According to Akingbade, “we who are apostles of change in the electoral process of this country vehemently disagree with Chief Obasanjo’s statement. It shows his state of mentality and level of hypocrisy. To use the name of Christ so negatively shows where he is coming from and how he left the nation. He is not interested in the electoral reforms embarked upon by the present government.

“Election can be credible in Nigeria but the first thing is that power must be wrestled from the present office holders because they are not interested in doing what is right.”
