Abia: Gunmen kill 3, kidnap ex-councillor

ABA — BARELY 48 hours after Abia State Government announced amnesty programme for all kidnappers operating in the state, suspected gunmen, weekend, killed two policemen, a civilian and kidnapped the immediate past councillor of Akwette Ward, Ukwa East Local Government Area, Mr. Omen Olujie.

Olujie is younger brother to the Secretary of Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, ABSIEC.

The incident happened at Obohia town of Ukwa East Local Government Area along the Obehie- Azumini express road.

The kidnappers were said to have abducted one unidentified person from Oboaku village and were racing towards Obehie when they shot dead the policemen on duty along the road before abducting the former councillor.

The slain civilian, whose wife was said to have put to bed last week, unfortunately ran into the hoodlums on operation where he was shot.

There was tension in the area as the gunmen shot indiscriminately along the way as they sped unhindered towards the Obehie area in Ukwa West Local Government Area of the state.

Police authorities in Aba confirmed the incident.

Rescue in Aba

In a similar development, Police in Aba, weekend, stormed suspected kidnappers’ camp at Ntighauzor in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and rescued Dr. Tony Digbo, Rev. Godwin Johnson and Chief Ubom Udo from Akwa Ibom State.

The Police also recovered one AK 47 gun, two magazines with 32 live ammunitions and one short double barrel with cartridges.
