2011: Guber aspirant tasks PDP on internal democracy

 By Emma Ovuakporie

ABUJA—A People’s Democratic Party, PDP, governorship aspirant in Gombe State, Mr Wassa Williams has advised the ruling political party to embrace internal democracy if it must perform well in the 2011 polls.

Speaking with the Vanguard yesterday, Willams frowned at a situation where in the party structure the state governor is the sole determinant of all slots meant for the state.

He said “for instance, the governor picks the local government chairmen, the State House Assembly members, senate and the House of Representatives, does this reflect true democracy, he asked.

Asked to comment on the swearing-in of President Goodluck Jonathan, Williams said,” Jonathan is an offshoot of Yar’Adua but he should pick a few out of his 7-point agenda such as power, national security and agriculture as this will ensure rapid growth of the economy .”

On his chances at the primaries, William stressed that “ well, the governorship has been zoned to the South of the state where I hail from, my chances are very bright as the other two zones, central and north had previously produced the governor of the state.”
