EFFURUN—The Nigeria Police Force has commended HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I, The Ovie of Uvwie, for donating a brand new Hilux van to Ebrumede police station, Effurun, in Delta State.

Assistant Inspector General, AIG, Zone 5, Mohammed Abubakar, made  the commendation during the presentation of the vehicle to the station last weekend.

Abubakar urged traditional rulers to emulate the gesture of HRM Abe 1 for the security of lives and property in their domain.

He commended Uvwie people for the prevailing peace in the area and for their rich culture and hospitality, adding that “what you people have shown to me this day is the opposite of what I was told about this area.”

He said Uvwie people should be grateful and thankful to God for having a wonderful king up to the task of meeting their needs.

The AIG said further that the police would continue to ask for more assistance from the paramount ruler of the area.

Speaking earlier through Chief Tuesday Onoge, the President-General of Uvwie General Improvement Union, the Ovie of Uvwie expressed gratitude to Delta State Police Commissioner, Mr. Yakubu Akali, for approving the Effurun mnarch’s request for the upgrading of the Ebrumede Police Station to a divisional police headquarter.

The traditional ruler also commended the divisional police officers and other police officers serving in his domain as well as high Chief Ugan Ugavah, the Usavwre of Alegbon and Ubremede people for their role in making the presentation of the Hilux van possible.

HRM Abe I, however, observed that more was still needed to be done by the police  in securing lives and properties in Uvwie.

He, therefore, appealed that more police check points, a police post at the university town  of Ugbomro and a police station in Effurun be created.

The Ovie expressed dismay over how the land provided for a police station at Effurun was being used by police officer’s wives for commercial purposes, urging the visiting AIG Zone 5 to urgently looked into the matter.

High point of the occasion was the presentation of the keys and particulars of the vehicle by the Ovie of Uvwie to the AIG who in turn handed them to the Police Commissioner, Delta State, Mr. Yakubu Akali, who promised that the vehicle would be used for the purpose for which it was donated.
