By Dennis Agbo

ABAKALIKI—THE Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested 48 suspects, including two traditional rulers and a top official of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, who were alleged to  have masterminded the crisis between Ezza-Ezillo and Ezillo in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dipo Ayeni, while briefing newsmen in Abakaliki, said efforts were in top gear to arrest more people, who masterminded the crisis and brought them to justice. According to him, “it is now a common knowledge that law and order have been restored and maintained in the hitherto

crisis torn Ezillo area of the state. The crisis which was occasioned by the feud between the Ezillo and the Ezza-Ezillo almost paralyzed the socio-economic activities in the state. The militants have since been dislodged from the area.”

In a related development, Ayeni said that 16 suspects were arrested and charged to court in the crisis in Akpoha, Afikpo North Local Government Area of the state, which led to the murder of one person and wanton destruction of property. He, however, noted that 21 other suspects were arraigned for various offences, including arson, kidnapping and burglary, adding that efforts have been intensified to identify all those who have been fermenting the crisis in the state. “No stone will be left unturned to ensure that these enemies of the society are brought to justice” he said.
