Ondo: Thousands decamp to LP

THOUSANDS of members of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, including its only member in the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon Abiodun Ogunbi and Action Congress, AC, Sunday decamped to the ruling Labour Party, LP, in the state.

Others members of the Action Congress, AC, also dumped their party for the LP at the ceremony held in Akungba Akoko.

According to the Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy, AD, in Akoko South West local government, Chief Omiyeniyi  Akande who led the entire members of his former party to the LP said their decision to join the Mimiko-led Government was predicated on his leadership qualities and the giant strides he has been making in Ondo State within a year in office.

The National Chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Dan Nwanyawu commended the unique style of leadership and sterling qualities of Mimiko which he noted had led to the influx of thousands of decampees into the LP in the state.

While assuring the new LP members that the party was an all encompassing one that would not discriminate, stated that there would be transparency in choosing candidates for various elective positions in next year’s elections.

Governor Olusegun Mimiko extolled the late former governor of the State, Chief Adebayo Adefarati .

Dr Mimiko described Adefarati as “one of the icons of politics in the country with a

promise to flag off projects for the road network of the Adekunle |Ajasin University sited in Akungba Akoko within the next two weeks.

He also told the people that their Health Centre would be upgraded to meet international standard.

At Ikare Akoko, the governor equally received over three thousand new members from the PDP, AC, AD and members of the Hausa Community into the LP.

The governor stressed that a level playing field for both the old and new members with an admonition for them to contribute their quota for the victory and development of the LP in subsequent elections.

Dr Mimiko said that a Caring Heart Model Primary School with state-of-the art facilities that would accommodate 1000 pupils would soon be constructed in Ikare Akoko.

He pointed out that the work on the on-going construction of modern market in the ancient town would soon be completed with a warning to street traders to desist from doing so in view of the grave danger in such activities in the town which had witnessed series of accidents and loss of lives and properties.

A leader of the AC who decamped Chief Segun Adagunodo from the AC hinged his decision to join the LP to the Caring Heart and exemplary style of the governor.
