PORT-HARCOURT â€” Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has called on the Federal Government to speed up the development of the Niger Delta.
The governor made the call while playing host to the Minister of State for Niger Delta, Mr. Samuel Ode.
Amaechi, who was represented by his deputy, Engr. Tele Ikuru, said the speedy development of the Niger Delta would douse tension in the region.
â€œWe are tired of talking, meetings, discussions and summits. We want action that would see to the development of the Niger Delta,â€ he said.
The governor congratula-ted the Minister on his appointment, adding â€œyou have a firm grasp of issues surrounding the Niger Delta and we can communicate well with you.â€
The Minister had earlier informed the governor that he was in the state to represent the Acting President at the 1st South-South Emergency Manage-ment Summit organised by the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, on the theme, Building An Effective Emergency Management Mechanism in the Niger Delta.
Ode thanked the state government for the hospitality shown him and his entourage, the minister described the summit as good tidings from the federal government.
