FORMER national chairman of the ruling PDP, Chief Solomon Lar and former finance minister, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, have been selected as members of a delegation of party leaders to plead the case of the embattled current chairman of the PDP, Prince Vincent Ogbulafor with Acting President Goodluck Jonathan.
Also on the list, according to sources, are Second Republic vice president, Dr Alex Ekwueme and the Senate President, Chief David Mark.
They are scheduled to meet the acting president tonight with a view to saving the job of Prince Ogbulafor who has come under severe attacks lately from some quarters in the party for alleged ineffectiveness and corruption.
The Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, ICPC, is preferring charges of corruption against him and the case is expected to commence tomorrow in Abuja.
Ogbulafor’s opponents are calculating that he will not be granted bail which will then pave the way for them to hold, on Tuesday, a meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee, NEC, in his absence.
Ogbulafor’s deputy,Dr Haliru Muhammed is also said to be currently outside the country and with neither the chairman nor his deputy at the meeting, the anti-Ogbulafor elements will have a field day in deciding his fate.
The Lar delegation, it was gathered, is to plead with the acting president that Ogbulafor’s planned arraignment tomorrow be re-scheduled.
To also plead for Nnamani, Masari & co
Party sources also said the team will plead for the lifting of the suspension slammed on 19 members of the PDP Reform Forum last Thursday.
Among those on suspension are former senate presidents Ken Nnamani and Adolphus Wabara;ex_speaker, House of Reps, Alhaji Aminu Masari; Rivers State former governor, Dr. Peter Odili; and former Transport minister, Dr. Sekibo Abiye.
The suspension followed their refusal to honour summons to come and defend themselves against allegations of anti_party activities.
The team is working on the theory that it will be dangerous for the party to approach or prosecute next year’s election as a divided house.
Governors of PDP controlled states are said to be fully in support of Ogbulafor who, in their view, is a victim. of a plot by the acting president and Chief Olusegun Obasanso to hijack the party.
ACF meets on Wednesday
Meanwhile, northern leaders under the auspices of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) are meeting in Kaduna on Wednesday to respond to alleged plan by Dr. Jonathan to contest next year’s presidential election.
It was gathered that the meeting would declare that the PDP zoning arrangement should remain in place.
