Katsina Police move against road crashes

Katsina —The Katsina State Police Command has directed its Area Commanders and DPOs to embark on enlightenment campaigns at motor parks on the dangers of road accidents.

State Deputy Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abdulmajid Ali, gave the directive in Katsina, yesterday, while parading a suspected member of a miscreants group (Kauraye).

He said the directive became necessary in view of the rampant cases of road accidents in the state,  which he said, had claimed 301 lives from January to March this year.

According to him, the sensitisation campaign is also necessary to reduce the carnage on the major highways in the state.

He said the ‘stop and search’ of vehicles embarked upon by the command from 8 p.m. daily, would continue as it had yielded positive results, especially in detecting criminals.

The Deputy Commissioner, who restated the commitment of the command toward fighting criminal activities, canvassed support from  members of the public.

The Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir, had last week expressed concern over the death of 54 persons and the wounding of 142 others in different road accidents in the state within the last three weeks.
