ISIEC distributes voters’ register

The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) has distributed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Voters’ Register to all electoral officers from the 27 local council areas of the state.
The distribution which was made in the open, took place at ISIEC Headquarters, Orlu Road, Owerri, while all the electoral officers were in attendance at the event.

Addressing the electoral officers from the 27 local government areas of the state, the ISIEC Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Nwaonye, made it clear that only those whose names were in the Voters’ Register would be eligible to vote or be voted for.

He advised any person whose name was not found in the Voters’ Register to immediately report to INEC for necessary action, stressing that except the aggrieved person reports, nobody would get to know of the lapse.

Nwaony directed the electoral officers to display the Voters’ Register at all electoral wards in their respective local government areas, as well as direct people properly on the verification exercise.

ISIEC boss urged all Imo people to go and verify their names in the Voters’ Register while the exercise lasts and to prepare for the voting on August 7, 2010, when the local council elections are scheduled to hold in the state.
He reiterated the resolve of the Commission to conduct free, fair and credible local council elections in the state and solicited the people’s cooperation and support.
