Ibori: Group blasts Oghara youths

By Gabriel Enogholase
BENIN—NIGERIA United for Democracy, NUD, has condemned in strong terms the attack on innocent Nigerians by Oghara youths alleged to be in sympathy with former governor of Delta State, Chief James Ibori, at Oghara town, along the Benin – Warri highway on Tuesday.

Vanguard recalled that on Tuesday, Oghara youths barricaded Benin-Warri highway in their reaction to the running battle the former governor is having with the Economic and Financial and Crimes Commission, EFCC.

A statement in Benin yesterday by Edo State chairman of NUD, Dr. Paul Oyarenua, described the action of Oghara youths as not only barbaric, but also motivated by a detestable, parochial and unpatriotic instinct.

The group accused former Governor James Ibori of re-arming and surrounding himself with militants who were disarmed by the government, instead of submitting himself to the EFCC, insisting that his action, apart from being shameless, was also out of tune with emerging new Nigeria.

The NUD also condemned the attack on Comrade Sunny Enemuvwedia and his wife who were on their way to Benin to attend the postponed “one man, one vote” rally by Edo State government, saying that when the like of Comrade Enemuvwedia fought for entrenchment of democracy in the country, Chief Ibori was nowhere to be seen.

According to the group,  “Ibori is not known to have played a positive role in the battle against military dictatorship.
“NUD advises Chief Ibori, if his conscience is clear, to submit himself to the EFCC for questioning, instead of promoting anarchy and chaos in this part of Nigeria at this critical era in our country.”

It also called on Acting Goodluck J Jonathan to ensure that the ex-governor and the hoodlums that terrorized Nigerians on the day in question were brought to book decisively and without delay.
