IBADANâ€”The University College Hospital, UCH, Ibadan was gutted by fire Monday which affected the tailoring section of the hospital. It took men of the Oyo State Fire Service about six hours before they were able to put out the fire. Though, no life was lost, Vanguard gathered that property worth millions of naira was destroyed.
When Vanguard got to the scene of the incident, about 30 industrial machines used for sewing and many bed sheets were completely burnt down.

The immediate cause of the fire was not known, but some workers of the hospital who stood in clusters were saying it was an electrical fault that ignited the fire.
Some journalists who got to the spot earlier alleged that they got some uncomplimentary remarks from the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Abiodun Ilesanmi who must have been emotionally disturbed seeing the extent of damage.
The State Director of Fire Service, Mr Gbolagade Oladipupo, who looked fagged out, told Vanguard that they noticed the fire around 5.51 a.m. and without being invited by anybody they traced the smoke and glowing fire to the hospital.
He explained that five fire fighting vehicles which contained 225,000 litres of water were quickly moved to the scene.
asked what could have caused the fire, he simply said he was still waiting to be briefed by the management, adding that unofficial information said it was power surge.
