FG to build 54, 500 new houses, says Minister

ABUJA—The Federal   Government has promised to deliver 54,500 new houses with each senatorial district getting 500 units of houses nationwide within the next 10 months.

Minister of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr. Nduese Essien who stated this at a meeting with the directors, and heads of parastatals, said government would vigorously pursue the issue of providing affordable houses to Ni gerians.

He stressed that Nigerians expect so much from this administration which intends to “deliver 54,500 new houses with each senatorial district getting 500 units of houses throughout the country within the next 10 months.”

He said “no contract will be awarded without passing through the necessary crucibles of the law. Contractors and service providers, who had failed to deliver in the past, will not be considered under this dispensation.”

He urged the officials of the Ministry to work hard in order to achieve the desired objectives of housing delivery by this administration.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Works, Dr. Tukur Bello Ingawa, formally handed over the affected departments from the defunct Federal Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development to the new Minister.

He however, solicited the cooperation and the support of the staff to the incoming Minister to enable him achieve the desired goals of housing delivery to Nigerians.
