ABUJAâ€”The Federal Government has approved N10billion for the Federal Staff Housing Loan Board to disburse loans to all applicants to enable them build and acquire houses of their choice.
The out-going Chairperson of the board, Dr Edugie Abebe made this disclosure at the hand over to the in-coming Chairman, Mr Pius Major Thursday.
Speaking at the ceremony Abebe said, â€œfollowing the granting of autonomy to the board, I vigorously with efforts of the management, Head of Service and members of the board canvassed for the increase in funding of the board to enable it achieve its mandate in the face of government policy on housing for all as contained in the Millenium Development Goals and the seven-point Agenda.
â€œThis yielded result following the Federal Governmentâ€™s approval ofÂ N10 billion to enable the board settle the backlog of approved applicants, it is on this note that I employ the in-coming Chairperson to relentlessly ensure that the approved money is urgently released to the board and to continue toÂ ensure that the board is adequately funded.â€
Also, Executive Secretary to the Board, Mrs Anatu Fika described the out-going Chairperson as the best they had in the last 10 years and her efforts had paid off as 50 percent of all civil servants are sure of owning their own houses through the board very soon.â€
The new chairman Mr Pius Major who is also the Permanent Secretary, Common Services Office of the HOS said â€œwhat matters most is the number of our colleagues that had benefited and how decisions are translated to reality.â€
Mr Sylvester Ejiofor, representative of the Civil Service Union praised Dr Abebe and implored the new helmsman to be as persistent as his predecessor who braved all odds to push the board to its present enviable position.
