Delta SSG eyes Senate

By Austin Ogwuda

ASABA—SECRETARY to Delta State Government (SSG), Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, yesterday confirmed his intention to run for Delta North Senatorial seat in the forthcoming elections, saying he had formally bowed to pressures to enter the race.

Although there are other unconfirmed aspirants on the queue for the seat, Okowa has become the first to make his intention public.

The SSG, in a reply to an enquiry from Vanguard yesterday over his intention to run said, “yes.”

Meanwhile, a pressure group known as Oshimili United Front, has declared that it was the turn of Oshimili to produce the next House of Representatives candidate for the area (Aniocha/Oshimili federal constituency).

It noted that “since the inception of the Fourth Republic, the position in the House of Representatives has been dominated by Aniocha indigenes.”

The group in a statement signed by its leader, Ogbueshi Ndozi Onyia, in Asaba, said “we, the people of Oshimili, have resolved to put an end to this marginalization and domination by our kith and kin in Aniocha.”
