2011: Edo PDP kicks off campaign

By Simon Ebegbulem
BENIN—THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Edo State, yesterday, kicked off its sensitization campaign ahead the 2011 general elections, describing the former Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih, as a “god father ordained by God.”

The state chairman of the party, Chief Dan Orbih, who addressed party supporters at Uromi, Ubiaja, and Igueben, home town of the National leader of the Action Congress, AC, Chief Tom Ikimi, decried what he described as “so much insecurity” in the state. He accused the  AC-led government in the state of alleged failure, just as he described the recent increase in school fees by the state government as  “wicked and highly insensitive to the plight of the people.”

The campaign was attended by the who is who in Edo State PDP, including the former Speaker, Zakawanu Garuba, whose removal is being contested in court. Others included the other ten PDP members in the state House of Assembly, former Special Adviser to the President, Professor Julius Ihonbvere, former Minister of State for Defence, Arch.Mike Onolememen, Paschal Ugbome, Owere Dickson Imasogie, and former Commissioner for Health, Dr Wilson Imogan.

Bisi Idaomi and the entire PDP executive in the state.

Speaking at the rally, Chief Orbih who urged all party members to be united in order to ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming elections, asserted that nothing had been achieved in the seventeen months of the Governor Adams Oshiomhole led government in the state apart from “abusing elders of the PDP particularly Chief Anenih whom God has blessed Edo state and Nigeria with”.

According to him, “PDP was in government for about nine years and all through no one person was kidnapped or assassinated but today the story is different.

We have started the campaign for 2011, Oshiomhole has not done any thing for the state and we will continue to say it until he leaves office in 2012. Since he came into office, our children can no longer go to school because of increase in school fees.

“Instead of giving us the dividends of democracy he promised us he keeps insulting our leader and god father, Chief Anenih. Even in the church you need a god father to baptize your child.

Whether Oshiomhole likes it or not, Anenih is our god father and Nigerians are proud of him” he declared.

Orbih further assured party members that “we are going to enthrone internal democracy in Edo PDP. we will be fair all aspirants and there will be no imposition.

We must all unite, all those complaining today are natural complainers, there is nothing you will give them that will satisfy them. But we will succeed with the leadership of Chief Anenih, we will take over the government House come 2012”.
