2011: AC blasts Akinjide for endorsing Akala

By Ola Ajayi

IBADAN—THE Action Congress, AC, in Oyo State has described as cowardly an alleged statement credited to the former Minister of Justice in the second Republic, Chief Richard Akinjide, at a recent political meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ibadan, where he said only Ogbomoso axis is entititled to produce the governor in 2011.

The AC, in a statement by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Mr Wasiu Adewale, expressed its disappointment at the PDP chieftain’s comment.

It said Akinjide made the comment at the venue where a clique in the PDP endorsed Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala to prepare a soft-landing for the Senatorial ambition of his daughter.

It reads in part: “It is now dubious that the leopard in Chief Richard Akinjide would not change its skin for the better.

At a time when it is expected that he should be remorseful about his past record of anti-people activities and seek forgiveness from the vast majority before meeting his Creator, Akinjide has again stunned many by his latest outburst when he said only Ogbomoso axis should produce a candidate in person of Akala to the disadvantage of Ibadan, Oke-Ogun, Oyo and Ibarapa political zones of the state.

“The political and legal abracadabra of 1979 which robbed the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, an opportunity to emerge President, was spearheaded by the likes of Akinjide and Nigeria still suffers from that mistake till today. The same person is now again at the forefront of promoting mediocrity and incompetence in order to actualize a personal desire by hook or crook. This was another coup against the masses and it must be condemned by all well-meaning indigenes and residents of the state.”
