Imo govt, labour parley over strike

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Serious negotiations are still going on between Imo State Government and labour leaders on the issues that gave rise to the suspended warning strike called by the State Public Service Negotiating Council, Trade Union Side, last week.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Labour Matters, Mr. D. Iwuoha, made this known while speaking to newsmen in Owerri.

He commended the organised labour in the state for exhibiting maturity and understanding on the issues involved and for suspending the industrial action. Mr. Iwuoha attributed this to what he called “the respect the industrial unions have for the labour-friendly Governor of the state.”

The SSA assured labour leaders and Imo workers in general that the Governor, who has done so much for the workers in the state, cannot ignore their welfare and advised the workers to take their jobs seriously while negotiations continue.
