Minna — Two people have been reported killed while several others were seriously injured after a communal clash between two villages, Emegi and Kuchita, in Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State over ownersip of a fish pond.

Dangerous weapons like dane guns, cutlasses, daggers and charms were freely used during the clash.
The communities had been at dagger drawn for several years over which community is rightful owner of the pond which is located between the boundary of the two villages.

An impeccable source told our correspondent that one of the villages (Kuchita) which claimed ownership of the pond had dragged its Emigi counterpart to court, praying the court to restrain it from fishing in the pond except Kuchita people until the outcome of the case.

Even before the determination of the case, tension rose in the two communities which led to a clash and subsequent loss of lives.

The two people who lost their lives during the bloody clash are Benjamin Naibi (25) and Mohammed Abubakar (27) while those who sustained serious injuries are Mohammed Mohammed, Mohammed Jibrin and Mohammed Musa.
Our correspondent learnt that the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar had intervened in the crisis some months ago by sharing the two ponds for the two communities but it did not go down well with the warring parties, hence the clash.
