Twenty-Four illegal immigrants suspected to be mercenaries from Niger Republic were weekend nabbed by operatives of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The illegal immigrants, according to Immigration sources, were discovered in a lorry in veiled clothes and when quizzed, it was revealed that they entered the country without the required travelling documents.
Vanguard further gathered from sources that the immigrants made up of mainly men, were suspected to be people of questionable characters.
Our source also hinted that after due interrogations, the immigrants were discovered to be suspected mercenaries whose destination was yet to be ascertained by the authorities.
But it was gathered that they were allegedly brought into the state by a yet-to-be identified group.
Meanwhile, the Immigration Service has said security and paramilitary agencies in the state were living no stone unturned to keep vigil over religious extremists who may want to cash in on the crisis in Jos to cause trouble in Benue State.
The Benue State Police Command had a month ago arrested over 80 persons around Tito Gate in Makurdi, suspected to be criminals imported to cause a breach of the peace in the state.
