Scoring the Delta Minority Leader

By Emma Ogana

POLITICS no doubt is a game which affords its players enhanced peaceful atmosphere, attracts love for one another and also an opportunity to rise to a position to assist in the empowerment of people.

Paramount amongst these is for a good politician if elected into any political position,  to first of all promote the overall welfare of the people of his or her immediate constituency, foster respect, confidence and garner support for good governance of the government of the day.

Looking at the political scenario of Oshimili-North Local Government Area of Delta State, there is no doubt that some of its sons and daughters who are appointed into various political positions at local, state or federal levels have so far performed creditably well while few of them have gone a step further through their overwhelming performance to attract a genuine clarion call from the people of the area irrespective of party differences for a second tenure in office.

In spite of the murky waters of politics in Oshimili North like in other areas, the member representing Oshimili North in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Princess Pat Ajudua who is also the Minority Leader has through dint of hard work, relentless clamour for peaceful co-existence and her every day movement to all the nooks and crannies of the entire constituency has helped her to carve a niche for herself.

To speak, educate and inform the people on the need to rally round the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan by this law maker is in appreciation of the numerous infrastructural development in the state as well as the peace initiative, empowerment by the Governor and the overall empowerment of the various political classes, including those of other members of other political parties, but also to ensure the support and total endorsement of the state governor, Dr.  Uduaghan, and his deputy, Prof. Amos Utuama for a second term in office.

Ajudua’s vision to garner total support and endorsement of the state governor is no doubt a clear testimony of a politician with positive desire to bring effective representation to her people.

The election of Hon. Ajudua in the last general election under the platform of the Accord Party and her subsequent election by her colleagues in the House as the Minority Leader has so far proved her as not only a good representative of the people but a legislator with God-ordained magic wand to lead the people to the promised land.

The continued support and encomiums on  Ajudua by her numerous supporters and party members at ward, local, state and federal levels know no bound due to her highly rated performance in using her position to attract the dividends of democracy of the Governor Uduaghan-led administration in the state to her people.

It was as a result of her resilient efforts and the support of the state government that she was able to record these laudable achievements which include the rehabilitation, construction /drainage of major roads in the area, the Ibusa Water Scheme Project, the construction of the High Court, the construction of constituency projects such as examination halls in some schools of the area, empowerment of men, women and youths as well as monthly payment of stipend to widows and the less- privileged among others that the people of the area, irrespective of political divide to have continued to doff their caps in support and endorsement for her second tenure in line with the good governance being provided by Dr. Uduaghan.

It is on record that the Uduaghan-led administration has so far given continuous support for the sustenance of not only the Accord Party but other parties in the state. But it is pertinent to state here that the humility, commitment and overall zeal by Hon. Ajudua, to bring the dividends of democracy to her people has confirmed her as one who  has carved a niche for herself as a good leader and mother.

Leadership is the physical and spiritual ability of moulding people of all class from their unruly behaviour to something that will better their lives and also a leader must have the ability to weigh options, take and make decisions and consult widely among her followers and seek their acceptance. He or she must have respect and concern for all followers. These qualities can easily be  found in the person of Hon. Pat  Ajudua, which has won her the accolade of a woman with a midas touch.

It is my candid opinion that there is nothing wrong for the people of Oshimili North whom she has served well not to come out to declare their support for her  to continue with her good work.

For instance, this is the first time since the creation of Oshimili North that an elected legislator has organized a meet the people town hall interactive section to exchange ideas and seek opinion with the people she represents. Hon. Ajudua has done this with her recent town hall meeting she embarked upon to all the wards of her constituency to inform them of her achievements since assumption of office and the way  forward.

A person  seeking for a political position should be given the support not by the political party the person belongs to rather by the performance of such candidate. After all, Governor Emmanuel Ewetan Uduaghan is today getting an overwhelming  support  and call for a second term by entire Deltans not because he is a PDP member but because of his giant recorded strides of achievements in the state.

I wish therefore to join the numerous supporters of this great woman politician to call on my brothers and sisters of Oshimili North at home and in diaspora to come forward irrespective of the party they belong and give their unalloyed support to Hon. Pat  Ajuda.
