The Director General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Otunba Olusegun Runsewe has promised to support the efforts of the Osun State Tourism Board in the development and promotion of Tourism in the state.
Otunba Runsewe made the promise when the members of the Osun State Tourism Board paid him aÂ courtesy visit at the Corporationâ€™s Tourism village in Abuja recently.
While thanking the members of the board for finding time to visit the corporation at aÂ time he said the industry is being positioned to serve as â€œthe saving grace for the countryâ€, OtunbaÂ affirmed that â€œNTDC is the regulatory body for Tourism in Nigeria and we must regulate wellâ€.
He charged the Tourism Board officials to work harmoniously with NTDC state officials to achieve the desired result.
He further stressed that to achieve a successful grading and classification of hotels in the state a holistic proper registration of hotels must be carried out.
Otunba charged them not to limit their functions on hotels alone, according to him, â€œyour jurisdiction is beyond hotelsâ€.Â He explained that they have the mandateÂ to supervise all tourism activities in Osun State which includes: tour operators, travel agents, Eatery spots, Restaurants, among others.
He assured that NTDC would explore the possibilities of rotating the annual joint Tourism Board meeting among tourism active states in order to boost their efforts.
Otunba stressed that the Corporation is determined to promote tourism in the state by exposing the tourism potentials of the states.
While advising that they should ensure ensure that they produce quality promotional materials that would be acceptable internationally, he assured the officials of Osun State Tourism Board that NTDC would work directly with them to move the industry forward, especially during Osun Osogbo festival.
Earlier, the leader of the team who is also the Board Chairman, Alhaji Adeyeye Gbadamosi intimated the DG NTDC that they were on hand to thank NTDC for supporting Osun Osogbo festival and the Olojo festival.
The Chairman on behalf of other members solicited the support of the apex Tourism body to chart a way forward between the Corporation and Osun State Tourism Board, prompt payment of the state shares from the hospitality internally generated revenue by NTDC and access to the joint account on Registration.
Alhaji Gbadamosi further canvassed the assistance of the Tourism body in establishing a direct cordial relationship with NTDC, the issuance of Registration certificate to the prospective hoteliers promptly and inventory of NTDC materials allocated to the state.
Alhaji Adeyeye Gbadamosi also stated that the Board is prepared to work with a joint task force set up by the Osun state government to prosecute hoteliers who fail to register their hotels or renew their registration fee.
HeÂ was accompanied on the visit by the acting General Manager of the Board, Prince Taiwo Agbeniyi, a board member and an official of the board.
