Labour leader tasks PHCN workers on productivity

BENIN—THE President- General of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies (SSAEAC), Comrade Bede Opara, has called on workers of Benin Distribution Zone of Power Holding Company and Transmission Company of Nigeria to further step up their productivity and service delivery.

Comrade Opara, who was in Benin, Edo State, for the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) delegates conference, told the workers at the PHCN and Transmission offices that more than ever before, they must be prepared to double their efforts in order to earn and retain the confidence of customers and other stakeholders in the industry.

Addressing the workers, Opara said he was delighted by the good report of commitment to duty he received from the management of the two organisations, but said  the workers could do more.  “This is the only farm we have and we have a duty to protect and even preserve it for generations unborn,” he said.

On the issue of monetization and sack of workers which was reported by some newspapers, Comrade Opara  said the two in- house labour bodies, the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) and (SSAEAC) in PHCN and Transmission Company had told the federal government and the corporate headquarters
