Jonathan, Abbe, others condole with Okonkwo

ACTING President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has joined eminent Nigerians to condole with Senator Annie Okonkwo and his family over the loss of their mother, Madam Mary Okonkwo. Meanwhile, late  Mary Okonkwo will be buried on March 12 in Ojoto, Anambra State.

In a special message, personally signed by him, the Acting President commended the extraordinary courage, doggedness, hardwork and warmth of character of Madam Okonkwo, adding that these were worthy testimonials she bequeathed to her children.

He urged Senator  Okonkwo to “take heart and see the passing of Mama as a celebration of life in Christian faith.”

Minister of Defence, Major General Godwin Abbe (rtd) in his condolence, said that testimonies of the late Madam Okonkwo showed her to be a woman of uncommon courage and doggedness, adding that Senator Okonkwo should take solace in the fact that she dedicated her life to the service of her community.

Across the West African Sub-region, came the message from the immediate past  Vice President of Ghana, His Excellency Alhaji Aliu Mahama, who said that “the Senator’s exemplary friendship must be a clear nurture from the virtues of the woman we mourn and celebrate.”

The Alpha Circle Club Lagos, whose patron is Senator Okonkwo in a solidarity visit pledged support and succor to the Senator in his trying times. The President of the Club, Chief Ben Amuta praised the generous spirit of Late Madam Okonkwo and wished their illustrious patron the courage to bear the loss.
In another pre-burial visit, members of Unique Friends Lagos, an exclusive league of Igbo technocrats have condoled their member, Senator Okonkwo.
