Imo Police warn rumour-mongers

By Chidi Nkwopara

OWERRI—Imo State Police Command says it had “observed with concern that some elements in the society have let loose their tongues to make allegations against individuals and institutions, which allegations they are yet to substantiate.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Linus Nwaiwu, stated the Command’s position in a statement  in Owerri.

“The Command is aware that these allegations are deliberately designed to cause fear and palpable tension in the state,” he said.

He warned that all those making such allegations that are capable of causing a breech of the peace, were advised to desist from such unwholesome attitude, failure which they will be made to come forward with pieces of evidence to substantiate their claims.

“The Command therefore enjoins law abiding citizens to ignore such unfounded allegations geared to discourage performance and malign genuine efforts of making Imo State crime free,” he said.

He urged the people to go about their legitimate business without fear of molestation as adequate security measures have been designed and adopted to keep hoodlums at bay in the state.
