BARELY four days after the indefinite suspension of Abia State commissioner for commerce and industry, Chief Victor Ubani, Governor Theodore Orji has suspended another commissioner. This time the hammer fell on the commissioner for finance, Chief Jones Udeogu.
Udeogu’s suspension came shortly after two senior officers in his office, the accountant-general and permanent secretary, were suspended for two weeks, which they had since served out.
Last week, Ubani was placed on an indefinite suspension for “administrative lapsesâ€. His suspension took effect from March 12. The commissioner for petroleum resources, Prince Ezekwesiri Ananaba, was mandated by the governor to oversee the ministry.
No official statement has been issued by the government in the case of Udeogu’s suspension as it did when Ubani was suspended. It is therefore not known the reason for the finance commissioner’s suspension and how long it will last. Efforts to get the relevant offices to speak on the suspension proved abortive as it seemed that everybody was afraid to speak on it.
