OWERRI—The N130 million Mini-Geoscience Workroom donated to the Geo-Sciences Department, Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, by ExxonMobil, has been commissioned.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Manager Deepwater, Production Geos-cience, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited, Mr. Andrew Ejayeriese, said the equipment was nothing different from the ones currently in use in the oil industry.
“The cost of setting up the workroom is N130 million. These include the cost of construction, furnishing, hardware, software, training, transportation and other associated personnel costs,†Ejayeriese said.
He warned that “considering the enormous amount of money spent on the project, it is critical that this workroom must be properly maintained.â€
Ejayeriese also appealed that owing to the unavoidable movement or change of jobs by lecturers, the Department should immediately employ a Geo-Technician, whose duties will be to master the usage of the machine, and provide long term support to students.
