A fake army lieutenant who was arrested by members of the special task force set up to maintain peace in Plateau State has been handed over to the state police command for investigations and prosecution.
The suspect was handed over yesterday by the coordinator, media centre of the special task force, Brigadier General Donald Oji, who identified the suspect as Sambo Tomchangyel.
According to him, the suspect was arrested around 2.30 pm in Kuru near Jos on March 11 while posing as a lieutenant in full army uniform but was discovered to be fake by vigilant members of the task force who promptly arrested him.
He explained further that the suspect had variously claimed to belong to the medical and engineering corps of the army.
Oji said the suspect had been seeking ways of getting the new camouflage uniform for members of the task force for a yet to be determined purpose.
He said “That is why we now want to formally hand him over to the police for further investigations through which other things will be unraveled about his mission to procure the uniformâ€.
The assistant commissioner in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Mr. Femi Oyeleye, to whom the suspected was handed commended the army for the step, promising that a thorough investigation would be done by the police to expose his motive.
