Crime: Oyo Police recover 24 arms, 600,000 ammunition

OYO State Police Command Wednesday recovered 24 assorted arms and 600,000 ammunition from some suspected criminals paraded at the Headquarters of the command, Eleyele Ibadan.

Also paraded were 36 suspects who were alleged to have committed various crimes which range from armed robbery to duping of innocent members of the public.

At the parade, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adisa Baba Bolanta hinted that the Federal Government had suspended issuance of firearms licence probably due to increasing crime rates in the country.

Bolanta said, “the licence for these firearms has been suspended due to the various crises in the country. I want to assure you that as soon as the environment is conducive, the suspension shall be lifted”.

He used the forum to explain that the recent killings of two politicians in the state were politically motivated.

He assured that the assailants would be tracked down soon. “I want to assure that we will unmask these killers and their sponsors. We are determined to put an end to political killing in this state and restore the confidence of the people in the polity”.
