Communal crisis: Senator’s position worries group

ABAKALIKI—A group, Ebonyi For Peace has faulted Senator representing Ebonyi central senatorial zone, Senator Julius Ucha’s position in the protracted war between Ezza and Ezillo communities in his zone, which recently claimed seven lives including two policemen.

Ucha had in response to claims by the Ebonyi state government which alleged that some unnamed Abuja-based politicians were financing mercenaries to unleash violence in the state, accused the state government of chasing shadows and not doing as much as he has done to halt the crisis.

However, in a statement signed by its President, Dr. Egwu Agu, the group faulted Senator Ucha’s position and rather blamed him for the excalation of the crisis from 2008 ” when he briefly stood in as Acting Governor for the then Governor Sam Egwu.”

“Shortly before mayhem was unleashed on both communities, the Ebonyi State government had alerted that some politicians were stockpiling arms and ammunition. As Senator representing Ebonyi Central, where Ezillo water scheme is sited, it would also be good if Senator Ucha told the world what measures he took directly or otherwise after the state government had alerted of plans by some politicians to destroy the water scheme in his domain. He said nothing, did nothing, but would now want to be taken seriously” declared the group:
