Army officer assults widow in Warri

WARRI—BARELY two years after a Naval officer publicly assaulted Miss Okere in Lagos, an unidentified army officer last weekend in Warri pounced on a widow and mother of four and her sister at the ever busy Hausa road main market.

The officer allegedly went ahead to destroy the front and rear windscreens of the C-Class Mercedes Benz car of the the victim, identified as Mrs. Evelyn Mega.

The army officer, who blocked the narrow one-way busy market road with his car, also allegedly broke the head of Mrs Eloho Mega-Wilson with a sword brought out of his Toyota Camry car with registration number Lagos DN 997 FST.

Vanguard gathered that trouble started when the widow, who was said to be driving her car on the same road, allegedly drew the attention of the military officer in mufti to the traffic jam caused by the wrong parking of vehicle on the road.

He allegedly ignored her, with his car still blocking the road until some traders pulled back their wares to create space for her to maneuver, a situation that angered the army officer who then got into his car, drove behind her and rammed into her vehicle thrice.

When Mrs. Evelyn Mega eventually stopped to ask why her car was being rammed into, the army officer started pounding her, using his horsewhip on her, while his orderly was appealing to the woman.

Confirming the attack, the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, “A” Division Warri , Mr. Okon Effiong, SP, said the matter was reported and investigation had commenced.

Narrating her ordeal in the hands of the yet-to-be identified military officer, Mrs. Mega told newsmen that they had to run to the police station to incident the case before the police took them for treatment.

At the time of filing this report, the green color C-class Mercedez Benz is still parked at the divisional crime section of “A” Division police station, Warri.
