Orji commissions refuse trucks

Umuahia—GOVERNOR Theodore Orji of Abia State yesterday commissioned two refurbished refuse compact trucks acquired by the  Abia State Environmental Protection Agency, ASEPA,  for its operations in Aba and Umuahia.

ASEPA said the trucks were procured through its internally generated revenue, adding that it could for now,  not afford to procure brand new ones. Though the agency did not say how much it spent to procure the trucks.

Commissioning the trucks at Government House, Umuahia, Governor Orji, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mazi Donatus Okore, noted the importance his administration placed on cleanness, which he said would prolong the life of the people.

Okore said that the government did not neglect any sector in its development programmes and commended ASEPA for its effort in keeping Aba and Umuahia clean.

“The Governor is all sector friendly. So he has not left out any one. He is giving every sector the attention it deserves. He is determined to keep the environment clean,” Okore said.

Stressing the need for a clean environment, the Governor described the trucks as a “morale booster,” which he said would go a long way to assist the agency discharge its duties efficiently.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Chief Charles Ojukwu commended the effort of the agency in acquiring the trucks and charged them to make good use of them to improve the sanitary condition of the cities, especially Aba and Umuahia.
