LAGOS—The Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, yesterday, lauded the National Assembly for empowering Vice-President Jonathan Goodluck as acting President.

It also described the removal of the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa, as victory to the people.

In a telephone chat with Vanguard, NMA’s National Vice-President,Dr. Alan Taiwo, said inasmuch as the National Assembly’s action might not be totally legal as expressed by the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, it afforded Nigerians the opportunity to have a person who would perform the executive functions of the office of Mr. President while on medical holiday.

On Aondoakaa’s removal, he said it was a good development and that it should have taken place last Wednesday immediately the Minister of  Information and Communications, Professor Dora Akunyili, tendered her controversial memo.

He said: “Aondoakaa has not been for the people. He has been working for himself and not Nigerians. This man has been deceiving the whole nation for a long time. I believe yesterday was justice for the people. I commend the Government.”
