Barely one week after mounting the saddle, the new Customs Area Controller of the Kano/Jigawa Command, Oyeyemi Rafiu Oyeniyi have appealed to officers and men of the Command to ensure that the issue of revenue leakages are addressed so as to realise its N1.5 billion revenue target this year.

Addressing officers during his familiarization tour of Jigawa, Oyeyemi stated that the target is achievable, adding that can only be possible through their collective support and cooperation.

While at Maigatari border, Oyeyemi charged the officers to intensify border patrol of the area so as to check the activities of smugglers, who are taking advantage of the poor state of the roads to circumvent payment of their duties.

“It’s only through hard work, commitment and dedication to duty that the Command can realise its goals,” he added.
During the 10-hour tour, which took the Controller to Jeke and Babura borders, he promised the officers that he will channel their office and residential accommodation problems to the headquarters, so as to address it once and for all.

The Customs boss, who is the second Area Controller to visit Jeke within the last 50 years of existence, got his vehicle stuck due to the poor state of the road but was rescued by the villagers who also confirmed that he was the second Customs boss to visit the area after a long time.

Before his departure, the Controller advised the officers and men to exhibit good conduct, while carrying out their day- to-day assignments, so as to earn the confidence and cooperation of the villagers.

He finally promised to ensure the welfare of the officers and men of the Command, particularly those serving at the border areas, where basic amenities are lacking.
