Katsina NARTO backs Gov Shema for 2nd term

By Idris Mohammed

KATSINA — National Association of Road Transport Owners, NARTO, Katsina State chapter has asked Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema to seek re-election in 2011, saying it was ready to purchase interest form for the governor.

State Chairman of NARTO, Alhaji Yakubu Karmaje, made the association’s intention known when he led members on a visit to the governor in Government House, Katsina yesterday.

Karmaje expressed satisfaction with Shema’s leadership qualities as well as his performance in less than three years of his administration of the state.

According to him,  “in view of the laudable performance of Governor Shema in less than three years of his  administration in Katsina State, our association will buy the governorship election form for him as soon as it is out.
“Governor Shema deserves a second term in 2011 and NARTO is the body to buy the form for him  in recognition of his achievements and wonderful leadership qualities in the state,” Karmaje said.

In his reaction, Shema commended the NARTO members in the state for their kind gesture and for ensuring stability of transport fares in the state.

Shema promised to look into the problems confronting the association regarding limited number of trucks and buses in their fleet as well as the increasing costs of tyres which require the state’s financial intervention.

The Governor further charged NARTO members to be law-abiding by observing traffic rules within and outside the state, as road signs would soon be provided in the state to reduce accidents.

“Government will soon provide sign posts across the state which include mileage and village indicators to reduce accidents on our roads as a committee for this is already in place,” Shema said.
