With the Iris Smart Technologies CCC League gradually going to the home stretch, the Lagos State Cricket Association have announced dates for the 2010 EDL sponsored Lagos/EDL Knockout Cricket tournament.
A statement issued by the LSCA boss, George Wiltshire said the competition will bowl off Saturday, March 20 at the Tafawa Balewa Square cricket Oval and the UNILAG cricket pitch, Akoka.
No fewer than ten clubs participating in the Iris Smart Technologies CCC league have enlisted for the competition which is the 9th in the series. The association chairman further disclosed that draw for the tournament will be held next week at the secretariat of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, TBS.
He said for the first time, clubs will compete in their colours while the white balls will be used in all the matches.
“This was an innovation introduced by the Club Cricket Committee, organisers of the Iris Smart Technologies/CCC League, in line with International Cricket Council ODI standard.”
Meanwhile, the 2007/2008 champions of the EDL tournament, the Lagos Indians Cricket Club who are competing in the lower division this season have declared war on other clubs nursing the ambition to win the competition this year.
Feelers from the Indian camp have it that with their chances of returning to the top flight league, the Asians were determined to make a statement with the EDL Knockout tournament.
But with the likes of Ibeju Lekki Cricket, Government College, Ibadan, Rocks of Abeokuta and of course, Government College Warri Old Boys Cricket clubs, the Indians will have their hands full as they too have vowed to defend their reputation and pedigree for the trophy at stake.
