BENIN—Alhaji Simple Kanabe, member of the South South Peoples Assembly, SSPA, has advised Acting President Goodluck Jonathan to implement the amnesty programme, as enunciated by President Umaru Yar’Adua.
Kanabe, who gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, in Benin, urged Jonathan to give the Nigeria Delta people succour, as contained in the amnesty blueprint.
He said Jonathan should not be afraid that people might accuse him of favouring the Niger Delta, noting that the programme was not initiated by him.
He said the programme would have been better implemented by the initiator, as Jonathan might be reluctant to give special grants with executive fiat, which Yar’Adua would have easily done.
The SSPA member also advised the acting president to ensure that the Niger Delta Ministry budget was fully implemented.
He said Yar’Adua had good intention for the Niger Delta, as demonstrated in the amnesty programme and the creation of Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
