Former Govs jostle for ministerial slots *Utomi, Obiozor may be appointed

By Albert Akpor

ABUJA—WITH cabinet reshuffle imminent at the Federal level, feelers from Abuja weekend revealed that ex-governors in the immediate past administration of Chief Olusegun Obasanjo are falling over themselves to get ministerial appointments.

Sources said those ex- governors who are presently members of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, are equally having sleepless nights for fear of being dropped.

The shake-up which is expected to take place anytime before weekend may see technocrats, like Professor Pat Utomi and Ambassador George Obiozor making the new ministerial list.

The fear-gripped ministers, according to sources, include Dr. Sam Egwu, Chief Achike Udenwa and Adamu Aliero.
For instance, sources said Chief Udenwa may likely not retain his portfolio in the commerce and industry ministry as he has been viewed to be performing below average following his ministry’s inability to access the N70 billion lifeline given to it by the FEC to revive the textiles industry in the country..

Secondly, it was gathered that his face off with the Imo State governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim which resulted in his defection from PPA to PDP; has placed the governor in a vantage position as the defacto party leader in the state and can therefore, recommend loyal party member to take Udenwa’s place in line with a recent agreement between the Ag. President and members of the Governors’ Forum.
