Foreign-based athletes sounds warn over unpaid allowances

Overseas based Nigerian athletes are warning up to challenge the shoddy treatment handed to them while representing the country at intentional meets.

According to one of the US-based athlete, there would be a meeting of all Nigerian athletes soon to discuss the untidy manner, which the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and the National Sports Commission handle their welfare.

“Can you believe that we are still being owed allowances from our participation at the Mobil championship and grand prix last year?

“For sure we are going to come togther and discuss the situation. This is because we athletes are tired of being mistreated,” said the athlete in a facebook chat.

He said that the athletes will not hesitate to boycott the Commonwealth Games to press home their agitation for better conditions. “Look at the mess we found ourselves at the last World Championships. Nobody is addressing those issues and nobody from the AFN is telling us when our outstanding allowances would be paid.

“Don’t be surprised if we fail to turn up for the Commonwealth Games. We are definitely going to meet to discuss the issue among ourselves here in the US and we will come out with a stand,” added the athlete.
